The Slovenian public libraries carefully build their diverse collections, which contain mainly printed books. However, they also offer non-book material such as maps, sheet music, audio and video records on various media, and toys for the young and the very young.

The Slovenian libraries, including all public libraries, participate in COBISS (short for Co-operative Online Bibliographic System and Services), which collects information on the material held by libraries and the material available for loan. COBISS+ is the open public access online catalogue where users can search for material in one or all of the libraries. Members can login to My Profile or install the mCOBISS mobile app, which makes it easy to use the libraries.
